Police find guns at San Luis High School

SAN LUIS, Ariz. – Two persons of interest  were questioned after two guns were recovered by police at San Luis High School.

The school was placed on lock down Monday morning after San Luis Police received a call saying someone on campus had a weapon.

Police searched the classrooms for any other threats according to Yuma Union High School District officials when a handgun was found. Police say a person of interest was arrested. However, the Yuma Unified High School District reached out to our news station and says the first weapon found was not loaded and found off campus.

The school was taken off lock down until 11:45 when police were notified of another gun on campus. The school was put back on lock down and each student and their belongings were searched. Yuma County Sheriff’s office, border patrol and other local authorities assisted in the investigation. A second loaded handgun was found and another person of interest was detained. Police say the incidents are unrelated but both are under investigation.

No injuries were reported. Details on the people arrested have not been disclosed by police.

Parents say they began receiving automated phone call from the district at around 12:30 p.m. notifying them about the lock down.

One parent says their child was told by school staff they are not allowed to text message their parents.
