ICCSS building partnership across the border

EL CENTRO, Calif. – State and local representatives of the Department of Child Support services are working to join forces with government agencies across the border.

This afternoon a ceremony took place at the County Board of Supervisors Chambers, welcoming the Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Baja California, Magistrate Jorge Armando Vasquez.

This is the first meeting of its kind.  Dignitaries from both countries discussed a collaboration effort between the Imperial County Child Support Services and Baja California Supreme Court.

Representatives from the Imperial County and State governments and local judiciary were all present, as well as other dignitaries representing the Mexican government at the state and federal levels.

Director of the Imperial County Child Support Services, Gustavo Roman says this partnership would benefit families on both sides of the border.

“We have a diverse population and we have needs on both sides, this collaboration would allow us to collect assistance with the help of Baja California courts,” said Roman, ” They would enforce our orders and we would enforce theirs.”

Roman and County Supervisors say this is the first of many more meetings of it’s kind.
