YUMA, Ariz. – Former Season 2 “American Idol” contestant Corey Clark was released from Yuma County Jail Monday night after no charges were filed against him. This comes after his estranged wife, Monica Clark, filed a domestic violence case last Wednesday, claiming he was stalking her outside a Yuma restaurant.

“Every time I come into town I’m being harassed, accosted, attested, bullied, and threatened to be arrested by the police most of the time in front of my kids,” said Clark.

The former reality star spoke exclusively with our reporters saying the meeting was arranged complying to court orders. Corey Clark alleged he waited outside the Yuma County Superior Court, as he stated to Monica Clark in advance, to meet with their children. The two share custody of the three kids. Corey Clark says instead of bringing the children, his wife passed by with a unnamed man and walked into the nearby restaurant. He then claimed to send another e-mail to her to communicate he didn’t see their kids as was planned.

“We’ve been battling with this situation and her family over our kids since our oldest was one years old,” said Clark.

Afterward, Corey Clark says he was confronted by authorities that took him into custody based on the domestic violence allegations his wife brought on. According to the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office, Clark was arrested on failure to comply with a court order and aggravated harassment.

The Tennessee resident says this is a reoccurring issue brought against him almost each time he visits Yuma to see his kids, but that he will continue to take the risk as a means necessary to continue to be present in their lives.

The couple are in the midst of a divorce. Monica Clark filed an order of protection against Corey Clark the same day of his recent arrest. Corey Clark is not allowed near his wife’s residence and can only contact her through legal process or a third party. Reporters reached out to Monica Clark who was accompanied by a representative of a local domestic violence non-profit Amberly’s Place while in court Monday. She wasn’t available to speak on camera.

“My mission is just to raise my kids. Love my kids. That’s it. I don’t have anything else to say to her. Her and I are done. It’s a wrap,” said Clark.

Short film highlights battle against cancer http://yourtvfamily.com/short-film-highlights-battle-against-cancer/ http://yourtvfamily.com/short-film-highlights-battle-against-cancer/#comments Wed, 23 Sep 2015 02:13:37 +0000 http://www.kyma.com/?p=8913 El Centro, Calif. – How do you say goodbye to your child, or explain that something, out of your hands, will take you away forever? Local filmmaker Rojian Lira shows in his 6-minute movie MAKE IT COUNT that you do it in a letter.
Lira explained, “It’s a story about a mom who is already seeing the end of her life, battling cancer. So she’s writing this letter to her daughter, wishing her well in the future.”

Having survived cancer himself – and meeting many more challenged by the illness at his job at Pioneer’s Hospital – Lira wanted to highlight in his short film the battle against cancer.

“I deal with a lot of people that have cancer. I have personal friends that have cancer. I myself had cancer last year. It was taken out. I’m completely free now of cancer. So cancer has always been a part of me. That was enough motivation for me to make a story,” Lira said.

Diana Peacherd, of the Cancer Research Center of the Desert, says it’s work like this that informs people of the reality of this disease.

“In Imperial County we have about six hundred new cases expected in 2015. That involves all cancers. Certainly the most prevalent cancer in Imperial County, as well as across the United States, is breast cancer,” Peachard said.
Lira shot the whole film in Brawley. It premiered Saturday, September 19, 2015, at the City of Imperial recreation center. He says it took two years and cost him about $15,000 – but it was all worth it.

Lira concluded, “I always vow to make movies that matter, movies that have positive messages, or a message of some sort that would have a positive contribution to our community.”

FORT YUMA INDIAN RESERVATION, Calif. – Founders of Kwatsan Media Inc. and the Ah-Mut Pipa Foundation are partnering to bring the Quechan Tribal community a first ever low-frequency FM radio station. The Federal Communication Commission awarded the non-profit group with a construction permit for the future site. President

President of the AMPF Foundation, Preston J. Arrow-weed is lending a space on his 10 acres of his land.  The area has been kept in his family for more than one-hundred years. It will now play host to the future KUAV 105.1 FM.

“I think it was what I was meant to do…I  thought of helping people for the people and that’s what this land is for,” said Arrow-weed. KUAV will be a platform for tribal members to host shows and conversations related to topics important to the Quechan people within a six mile radius.

Vice President of Kwatsan Radio, Brian Golding Sr. said, “Focusing on history and culture in a way to try and inspire them to look deeper and commit to learning songs, language, culture history and finding ways to give back to the tribe as well.” The FM radio station is an independent initiative for the community, supported by the community. Arrow-weed says this is also a great opportunity for the youth to get involved with media arts and pursue their dream.
The group says they need to raise $80,000 for equipment and renovations to the space they are converting into a radio station. If you would like to donate log on to www.kuav1051.org or send your contribution to P.O. Box 160 Bard, CA 92222.

Stuff the Bus draws the Yuma Community Together http://yourtvfamily.com/stuff-the-bus-draws-the-yuma-community-together/ http://yourtvfamily.com/stuff-the-bus-draws-the-yuma-community-together/#comments Sat, 18 Jul 2015 05:45:18 +0000 http://kyma.com/?p=7637 YUMA, Ariz. – For the past 15 years the Yuma community has come together to donate school supplies for local kids. Friday was no different, the Stuff the Bus event was held at the Yuma Palms Mall throughout the afternoon. Residents donated items like back-packs, pencils and folders to help prepare students for their first day of school.

The goal this year for Stuff the Bus was 6,000 back-packs. Superintendent Tom Tyree is confident they will reach that goal. People of all ages volunteered for the event and were happy to help such a good cause. At the end of the event about $7,000 in cash donations were made. If you would like to donate Yuma Regional Medical Center is taking donations in their foundation center and Alexander Ford is also taking donations.

Desert Sun Clasico canceled just days before event http://yourtvfamily.com/desert-sun-clasico-canceled-just-days-before-event/ http://yourtvfamily.com/desert-sun-clasico-canceled-just-days-before-event/#comments Tue, 14 Jul 2015 05:43:54 +0000 http://kyma.com/?p=7566 YUMA, Ariz. – The Desert Sun Clasico was to be held on Tuesday at the Desert Sun Stadium. Mexican soccer teams from Tijuana and Morelia were to play against eachother. The Arizona Strikers were organizers of the event their head coach Manny Arias says low ticket sales were the reason.

The stadium can hold up to 7,500 people, Arias says they expected about 1,500 but in three months they were only able to sell 300 tickets. He says they lost several thousands of dollars because of it. He says he is disappointed in the community, as his organization tried to bring something beautiful to the community. The city of Yuma says, “People are going to vote with their pocket book that’s the free marketplace at work.”

Tijuana and Morelia will still have a game on Tuesday but it’s being held in Tijuana. For those that bought tickets to the Desert Sun Clasico online you can visit holdmyticket.com, if you payed cash you should return to the point of purchase.

Marines go through special training in Yuma http://yourtvfamily.com/marines-go-through-special-training-in-yuma/ http://yourtvfamily.com/marines-go-through-special-training-in-yuma/#comments Sat, 18 Apr 2015 05:28:34 +0000 http://kyma.com/?p=5765 YUMA, Ariz. – On Friday MCAS Yuma underwent the Spring portion of their bi-annual Weapons and tactics instruction course demonstration, known as WTI, in Yuma. The marines would go through a simulation of situations they may encounter in a foreign country during war. Marine officials say that the marines that are WTI students are already extremely well trained, but to pass the WTI course requires being the best of the best. They say that those that do pass are recognized “across the board” for the specialties.

Marine officials say that Yuma is the premier location for this type of training as the weather is perfect for aircraft and that the community is very supportive. The marines will continue WTI training again in the Fall.
