Yuma in the Community

I wanted to touch base on the subject of community events in Yuma. Before I worked at FOX9 I saw Yuma as a kind of dead end town, with not much going on. It seemed the only entertainment was catching a movie, or testing how spicy I could go on a dozen chicken wings! Then once I started working at FOX9 I met some individuals who really care about the community and showed me that Yuma is home to MANY exciting events and new experiences. Over the last 18 months, I have been lucky enough to ride in a hot air balloon, tour the agriculture Industry and enjoy some wonderful local produce cooked by the students at AWC. I went on a fantastic shoot down at the river and finally understood the beauty of the desert. I’ve enjoyed tasting margaritas, wine, chili and...

The Ellen Experience

Note to self: If I’m lucky enough to be an active audience member at a live TV show again, do not consume a 5-hour energy drink 30 minutes before! My co-workers can vouch for me on this one. I was like a rabbit on steroids waiting in line at the bottom of the stairs to the entrance of the Ellen set. I was so excited, that even the couple who stood in front of us called us “entertaining”. I think they were in reference to my practice dance moves that included “stacking the shelves” and the famous “sprinkler” move. To get those up to speed unfamiliar with Ellen, it’s the show’s ritual to dance as much as you can throughout the recording! After waiting in the parking lot with the rest of the fans (some had been...

The River Premiere Tues on ABC5

Horror, zombies, dark rooms, the jungle and plenty of screaming defines the new ABC5 series, The River. Dr Emmet Cole a documentary maker and his crew are missing somewhere deep in the Amazon. His family set out to find him, but are faced with more dangers than they bargained for. Forget old haunted houses, the Amazon brings horror to a whole new level. The jungle is such a perfect setting. It’s fascinating, mysterious and undiscovered, and sure to bring some frightful excitement. The River looks like a totally original series and I’ve been counting down the days to the 2 hour series premiere Tues 7pm. Can I count you...

Touch Season Preview

So who’s excited about the special Touch preview tonight at 8pm after Idol? We’ve been airing promos for weeks now and it looks like my cup of tea (excuse the English phrase). Kiefer Sutherland plays Dad to a very extraordinary kid that doesn’t talk, but can predict the future and connect people’s lives. And talking of Kiefer Sutherland, I only just found out that he plays the “mean kid ” in one of my favorite movies of all time, Stand By Me. My respect for the actor just soared. However, I struggle to pronounce his name correctly every time. See if you can spot where I had to edit that part out of the prime lineup...

The X Factor Tonight at 7pm

Was anyone else disappointed that Baseball took over our screens last night and consequently set the X Factor back? Well I turned the box on about ten minutes to 7 and was disappointed to see that the game was still heavily involved. Don’t get me wrong, I do actually enjoy baseball when there is nothing else on, but tonight I was eagerly anticipating the Judge’s homes episode! It got to 7 oclock and the game was in the 10th inning. “Here we go”, I thought, “this is going to be never ending”. My night was over! However, I was rescued! I turned to ABC5 and thought I would give The Middle a chance. I actually really enjoyed it, as I flicked over to channel 9 periodically to see the status of the game. Who is that kid? He’s...

Tim Allen’s “Last Man Standing”

If you were fortunate enough to see the premiere at the Yuma block party back in September then you already know what to expect from this clever comedy. What I love about this show, is how Tim Allen highlights all that’s wrong with masculinity and manhood in today’s society. So not only will it give the guy viewers a kick up the backside, but it should hopefully give the female viewers something to smile about. Tim’s character is married with 3 young daughters, one of whom is already a mother herself. He judges their love interests on their ability to prove themselves on being a “man”. So when he finds a boy that’s capable of changing a tire, he knows that he’s good enough for his daughter! Don’t miss out tonight on A
